JUNE 22 FLOOD

  • The recent flood damaged Hope Haven’s main building in Rock Valley, offices in Spencer and Sheldon, eight community living facilities with 50 residents displaced, and the Hope Haven International Ministries (HHIM) workshop. The HHIM workshop suffered extensive damage to its contents due to 2.5 feet of water in a 30,000 square foot building. Estimated cost of damage ranges from $250,000 to $350,000, including loss of wheelchairs, parts inventory, and the building. The workshop had 975 refurbished adult wheelchairs and 1,106 pediatric kidchairs completed boxed and ready for shipment when the floodwater rushed into the building. Throughout the weeks, numerous volunteers arrived to help remove muddy wheelchairs and parts from the building in order to clean and tear off 4 feet of sheet rock. All wheelchairs and parts were power washed and cleaned to be evaluated for quality condition.
